Energy and carbon calculator
Compare home electricity, fuel and your own travel. This is a partial educational estimate, not a complete or certified carbon footprint.
One electricity unit is one kWh. Prices are optional and must come from you.
Start with your home
Teaching example: replace the values with yours. Prices start blank. Home energy is shared; travel means your journeys.

Your yearly carbon footprint
0.0 t Partial annual estimate in CO2e; mixed source coverageWhere it comes from
How it compares
Country and world figures are territorial fossil/industrial CO2 per person (Our World in Data, 2024 data; Global Carbon Budget 2025, source updated 13 November 2025, checked 2 November 2026). International aviation/shipping is included only in the world total. Use them as context. These boundaries differ from this partial estimate. This is not a like-for-like ranking or proof of meeting a lifestyle budget. Diet uses UK adult study groups; goods, services and other sources are omitted. See the methodology.
What's eating your units
Estimates from typical wattage and the hours you gave. Real use depends on the appliance's age, size and the weather.
Switch-off snapshot
Compare up to one fewer running hour a day, bounded by your entered runtime. Only reduce non-essential operation.

Changes that cut your bills and CO2
Choose hypothetical changes. Combined electricity reductions cannot exceed remaining grid imports. Price-free scenarios show units and accounting emissions only.

Version 4.2 · Sources and flight inputs corrected 2 November 2026. Wood/other cooking fuels are excluded; LPG uses entered cylinder weight and IPCC defaults, gas and named coal types use EPA references. Recalculate earlier fuel or flight results. Diet corrections from version 4.1.1 remain in place. Read the correction and calculation limits.
Use the seven-day home-energy worksheet to record your assumptions and compare changes. For equipment-specific methods, read the fan, AC and fridge guides.
